Defense Privacy Board Advisory Opinions
29. DEPERSONALIZING COMPUTER CARDS AND PRINTOUTS BEFORE DISPOSAL
A massive release of computer cards and printouts for disposal
is not a disclosure of personal information precluded by the Privacy
Act if volume of the records, coding of information in them, or
some other factor renders it impossible to pinpoint any comprehensible
information about a specific individual. Such computer products
may be turned over to a Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office
for authorized disposal by sale or recycling, without deleting
names or other identifying data.
